Are Diamonds Rare?

It’s one of the most common questions I get from my clients but it’s a tricky one to answer. Some varieties of diamond, like most consumer diamonds, are plentiful and others, like large, top-quality ones, are extremely rare. Fine quality colored diamonds, like pink, green, and blue, are very rare and red diamonds are incredibly rare.

But are they a good investment?

Wealthy individuals and companies buy extremely rare diamonds through auction houses and private dealers and treat them as alternative investments rather than actual pieces of jewelry. Diamonds that are readily available and widely marketed to consumers qualify more as luxury items than investments.
