Fancy Colored Sapphires (Corundum)
Fancy sapphires come in almost every shade of the rainbow: pink, orange, yellow, purple, green, white, and black. Coming from the Corundum family, they get their colors mostly from chromium, iron, and titanium. Top color, no-heat stones are extremely rare so most specimens of fancy sapphires are heat treated (an industry practice accepted internationally.) Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and East Africa all are major producers of fancy sapphires.
